Vessel Structure and Appointments

The Paul Johansen, which worked in the North Sea year ‘round as a rescue vessel, is not only seaworthy but also is exceptionally roomy and pleasant for its passengers:

Extensive reconstruction has created a graceful exterior which adds living space while maintaining the integrity of the boat’s original design.  The interior is totally refurbished with beautiful and meticulous finish work throughout.

The large saloon  has comfortable sitting room as well as a table for projects, games, and meals.  Large windows throughout allow for excellent viewing of  the cruising waters. Jatoba wood flooring (Brazilian Cherry) throughout.

The galley is visible and accessible for guests wishing to assist the chef. It boasts a large refrigerator-freezer, an electric convection oven with cook top, a dishwasher, and room for the china originally used when the Paul Johansen worked  in the Norwegian life saving service.

In the pilot house (open to passengers most daylight hours) there is room for several guests to stand or sit with the skipper to watch boat traffic. There is ample opportunity to  scan air, land and water for sea life including whales, dolphins, seals and seal lions or for animals such as  bears, wolves and a wide variety of birds.

Outdoor seating is available during fair weather cruising or while the boat is docked or anchored.  Large open areas on the forward deck or on the upper (boat) deck provide ample room for enjoying the outdoors. The afterdeck makes a beautiful seating area for relaxing or dining on pleasant evenings.

Each of the three staterooms  has a queen sized bed  in addition to a single bunk. Storage lockers and drawers provide space for personal items to be stowed out of sight, while the ensuite heads (bathrooms) each feature a large shower, sink, counter, toilet, and ample cabinet space. The staterooms each have a  porthole that allows for natural lighting during the day while excellent interior lighting is available for reading and relaxing.  The rooms are pleasantly decorated in classic boat style and provide an environment for  privacy and relaxation  during all hours of the day and night.
